What this page covers
Dodo Rent is a car-rental marketplace for Mauritius, operated as part of the Dodo ecosystem. This page explains what personal data we hold when you use the site or app, why we hold it, who sees it and how long it stays. We handle personal data under the Mauritius Data Protection Act 2017. For anything on this page, write to info@dodogo.mu — our shared Dodo ecosystem support.
Your account
Your phone number is your account: sign-in works by a one-time code sent to WhatsApp, and we store no passwords. We also keep the name you give us and, once you book, an email address — that is where the booking confirmation and voucher go. One Dodo ID works across the Dodo family (DodoGo, Dodo Travel, Dodo Rent): if you arrive through Dodo ID sign-in, the account details you already gave the ecosystem — name, phone, email — are reused instead of asked for again.
Booking and driver details
To rent a car the law and the rental agreement need more than a phone number: the driver's name and date of birth, photos of the driving licence, and — optionally — an identity document, the address where you are staying and an emergency contact. We collect these to draw up the rental agreement for your booking, and the rental company you book with receives exactly what that agreement carries. Rental companies may use these details only to perform your rental, never for their own marketing.
Payments
The online prepayment is taken on the bank's own secure page. Your card details never reach Dodo Rent — we store only the amounts, the payment status and the bank's invoice number that confirms the transaction. The balance due at pick-up is settled directly with the rental company.
Messages and notifications
We keep the messages you exchange with rental companies and with support inside the platform — they are what resolves a dispute honestly. Sign-in codes go to your WhatsApp; booking updates go to your email; push notifications arrive only on devices where you turned them on, and each category can be switched off in your notification settings.
Cookies and analytics
Essential cookies keep you signed in and remember your language — the site cannot work without them. Beyond that we use Google Analytics to see how the site is used in aggregate: which pages are read, where a booking is abandoned. It runs only after you accept the cookie banner — until then no analytics cookie is set and nothing is sent to Google. IP addresses are anonymised, advertising features and ad personalisation are switched off, and we never sell or share this data for advertising. Your choice is stored on this device, you can change it on this page at any time, and declining changes nothing about how Dodo Rent works for you.
How long we keep it, and how it's protected
Your account lives while you use it. A rental that took place — the booking, its rental agreement, the driver documents that agreement carries, the payments and the messages on it — is kept for 7 years from the end of the booking, the period Mauritian law sets for accounting records. Licence and identity photos on your profile are yours to replace at any time and are cleared when you close your account; the copies that belong to a rental that took place stay with it for those 7 years. Data is stored on secured servers, access inside the platform is limited by role, and a rental company sees its own bookings and the documents its agreement carries.
Your rights
Under the Data Protection Act 2017 you may ask what data we hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted where the law no longer requires us to keep it. Write to info@dodogo.mu and we answer within a reasonable time. If you believe we handle your data wrongly, you may complain to the Data Protection Office of Mauritius. When this page changes in a way that matters, the change is announced on the site before it takes effect.
Closing your account
You can close your account yourself: Account → Settings → Delete account. Access closes immediately — you are signed out everywhere, the account can no longer be used to sign in, and your phone number and Dodo ID are released. A few minutes later a background pass clears the rest: your name, e-mail, profile photo, licence and identity documents, your reviews, bookings that never went ahead and the messages on them, and the e-mails and notifications queued for you (a message already on its way may still arrive). What stays is a rental that took place, with what belongs to it: the rental agreement, the driver documents it carries, the payments, the booking's events and its messages — and a booking cancelled after a payment was taken counts as one. Mauritian law requires accounting records to be kept, so these are held for 7 years from the end of the booking. Backups hold older copies for a limited time. An account cannot be closed while a trip is still running or money is still moving on it: the screen says which, and what to do about it. No app to hand? Write to info@dodogo.mu from the phone number or the e-mail address of your account and we do it for you.
